A tragic incident occurred in Pembroke Pines on Thursday morning when a 15-year-old boy lost his life after being struck by a car near a school bus stop, according to the local police.
According to Pembroke Pines Police, a teenager was struck in the 12200 block of Washington Street at approximately 6:38 a.m.
The police initially stated that the teenager was hit while crossing the street. However, they later clarified that he was standing partly on the roadway and partly on the median when the accident occurred.
According to authorities, initial findings indicate that the boy was struck outside of a designated crosswalk, possibly influenced by poor weather conditions that resulted in low visibility. The morning commute was disrupted by a storm that brought heavy rain and lightning.
According to the police, despite the efforts to save his life, the boy sadly passed away after being taken to a nearby hospital.
The police department’s victim advocates have notified the boy’s family and are providing them with necessary services.
According to school officials, the teenager who was struck near a school bus stop was a student at Flanagan High School.
Principal Brad Fatout expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family, loved ones, teachers, and classmates of the student. In a message sent to the school community, he emphasized the importance of coming together to support the grieving family through prayers and support during this difficult time.
Some students at the school claim that they learned about the incident through the intercom system, while others claim that their friends informed them during lunch.
“I felt really awful because I can only imagine how heartbreaking it must be for one of my friends. It’s a truly terrible situation,” expressed student Christopher Bolivar with genuine concern.
According to a security guard at a nearby apartment, the student resided in the vicinity.
Details about the driver responsible for the accident were not immediately accessible.
