Officials reported that on July 14, authorities arrested a woman from Atmore and three individuals from Florida for drug possession charges.
According to a release by Sgt. Darrell McMann, Public Information Officer for the Atmore Police Department, four individuals have been arrested and charged with drug-related offenses.
Leslie Whiting, a 35-year-old resident of Atmore, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and disorderly conduct. Amy Nelson, a 47-year-old from Daytona Beach, Fla., has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Additionally, Jonathan Schinasi, a 44-year-old from Lake Butler, Fla., and Shawn Boutwell, a 29-year-old from Walnut Hill, Fla., have both been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to McMann, officers of the APD received a call at around 8 a.m. on July 14, reporting a suspected drug overdose at a residence located in the 300 block of Beck Street.
The unconscious person had ingested a combination of GHB and embalming fluid, also known as scoot, according to McMann, who claims that several people met the officer when he arrived at the property. While speaking to others present at the scene, the officer learned of the possibility of more drugs being present in a camper located on the property. Consequently, the officer reached out to the Atmore police narcotics investigators who obtained a search warrant.
According to McMann, while carrying out the search warrant, the investigators discovered methamphetamine, a number of unidentified items, and a variety of other items typically used for ingesting narcotics.
According to McMann, Whiting was taken to Atmore Community Hospital, where she reportedly became angry and argumentative with the hospital staff, assuming that law enforcement was not present.
According to McMann, ACH treated and discharged Boutwell.
The Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton was where Whiting, Nelson, Schinasi, and Boutwell were taken for transportation.
