Officer Mike Vega, spokesperson for the Miami Police Department, reported that authorities were alerted to an unresponsive woman found inside an apartment building near the 400 block of Northeast 82nd Street at approximately 8:30 a.m. on May 28th.

According to the police, Sujelry Brito, a 41-year-old who resided by herself, was discovered deceased in her bedroom due to a single gunshot wound.

According to officials, witnesses shared information about Brito’s former partner, Larry Julius Burton Jr., who is 30 years old, during the inquiry.

In the arrest report, detectives confirmed Burton’s vehicle to be a white Chevrolet Tahoe that resembled an older police vehicle. Additionally, they noted that Burton had a history of domestic violence.

According to the report, surveillance footage captured Burton’s vehicle arriving and leaving the scene during the time frame of Brito’s murder.

Investigators have reported that on May 20 at around 5:44 p.m., a witness who was under oath provided additional support to the video evidence. The witness positively identified a Black male walking from the vehicle to Brito’s apartment.

According to authorities, Miami police detectives were able to obtain search warrants for phone records on May 30th, and after analyzing the data, they discovered that Burton’s phone was in the vicinity of the crime scene at the time of the murder.

During the investigation, authorities discovered financial records that led them to a residence located close to the 6000 block of Northeast First Court. Upon searching the premises, law enforcement found a Taurus G2C 9mm firearm that had been concealed within a sofa cushion.

On Friday, police stopped and arrested Burton while he was sitting in a vehicle, before carrying out the search warrant.

According to detectives, Burton was taken to the homicide office of the MPD for questioning, where he made a confession that was not disclosed in the report made available to the public.

According to Burton’s arrest report, he is being charged with second-degree murder, burglary of an occupied dwelling, and illegal possession of a weapon as a convicted felon.

Currently, he remains in custody without bond at the Miami-Dade County Pre-Trial Detention Center, and a decision on his bond is yet to be made.

At present, the police have not revealed any motive behind the tragic shooting incident that resulted in a loss of life.
