Emergency services rushed a young child, age 4, to the hospital following a shooting incident in a residential area of West Miami-Dade, according to law enforcement officials.
On Saturday night, the Tamiami area near 16th Street and Southwest 127th Court reported a shooting incident, to which Miami-Dade Police and Fire Rescue units promptly responded.
As cameras from 7News captured a significant police presence, crime scene tape blocked off a section of the street.
Investigators reported that during an argument between two individuals, one of them discharged a firearm and shot at the other person.
The boy was using his iPad when one of the bullets that went through a home struck him, according to detectives.
According to a neighbor who spoke with 7News through a translator, gunshots were heard.
“As I approached the scene, I witnessed the police arriving and rushing inside. Moments later, they emerged carrying a child who had been shot,” he recounted.
As he lay on the stretcher, a young victim had a bandage wrapped around his shoulder. Emergency services quickly transported him to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital where he currently remains in a stable condition. Thankfully, the police have reassured us that the child is expected to recover fully.
As officers were present at the scene, cameras captured a family sitting on a stoop and conversing with them, while nearby residents stood by watching.
Authorities are currently on the lookout for individuals who were part of the altercation and left the premises. No description has been released yet, and it is unclear whether they escaped on foot or by vehicle. Furthermore, it is uncertain if these individuals have any connection to the victim involved in the incident.
The incident is still being investigated by the police, therefore, no additional information has been disclosed at this time.
