A man from Miami is facing criminal charges for shooting two individuals during a road rage incident on Florida’s Turnpike. The charges were filed last Friday, marking over two years since the incident occurred.
Jermaine Marquan Jackson, who is 30 years old, is currently facing multiple charges. These charges include attempted murder, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, shooting or throwing a deadly missile, and improper exhibition of a firearm.
The shooting took place at approximately 1 p.m. on January 11, 2022, in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike at the Golden Glades Interchange, as stated in his arrest report.
According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, a man was operating a blue 2013 Honda Civic when he encountered a situation where a silver Chevrolet sedan attempted to abruptly change lanes in front of him.
According to FHP Lt. Alex Camacho, the driver of the Chevrolet retaliated after the victim refused to let them into his lane. They drove up to the victim’s vehicle on the emergency shoulder and fired 1-2 rounds from the passenger window. This incident was reported by Local 10 News via email.
After the shooting, the man drove to the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Northside District Headquarters and told an officer that he and his girlfriend had been shot.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue promptly arrived at the scene and swiftly transported the victims to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. There, the victims received medical treatment for injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening.
Detectives initially identified the Chevy involved in the incident and its tag, which ultimately led them to connect Jackson to the crime, as stated in the arrest report.
Jackson was pulled over and initially arrested by troopers for driving with a suspended license.
According to authorities, he made a statement without any prior planning. However, the statement was removed from the report that was made available to the public.
The report states that Jackson has not been charged immediately in relation to the shooting because further evidence is being analyzed.
According to authorities, the individual who was shot later identified Jackson as the perpetrator in a photo lineup.
According to troopers, the records obtained from a nearby cellphone tower indicate that Jackson’s cellphone was in close proximity to the scene at the time of the shooting.
Despite numerous efforts, authorities were unable to apprehend Jackson, as stated in the report.
The arrest report states that on August 22, 2024, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office asked me to fill out forms that were missing in relation to a warrant requested in 2022 for the defendant. While searching for the SID and FBI number to complete the forms, I discovered that the defendant had been arrested for attempted murder in January 2024 by the Miami-Dade Police Department.
Jackson remains in custody for the previous arrest, and authorities have now pressed charges against him for the road rage incident on Friday.
Jackson is currently being held without bond at the Metrowest Detention Center, as of Monday.
