The New York Post reported that Wade Wilson, who is tattooed and is known as the “Deadpool killer” due to his similarity to the Marvel Comics character, exhibited no emotion as the judge pronounced the sentence.

The 30-year-old was convicted of strangling Kristine Melton to death as she slept the morning after meeting her at a bar. Subsequently, he assaulted, strangled, and drove over Diane Ruiz with his vehicle after observing her on a street that same day.

“The evidence indicates that the murders were heinous, atrocious, and cruel.” Circuit Judge Nicholas Thompson concurred with the jury’s recommendation of two death sentences, one for each murder, during the sentencing process, stating that the second murder was chilly, calculated, and premeditated. In June, ten of the twelve jurors at the Lee County Courthouse in Fort Myers voted in favor of Wilson’s execution for the murder of Ruiz, while nine of the twelve jurors voted in favor of Wilson’s execution for the murder of Melton. Eight jurors are required by state law to vote in favor of the death penalty.

In a news conference immediately following the sentencing, State Attorney Amira Fox stated, “He will pay the ultimate price.” The families of the victims were present. According to local TV station FOX 4. , the defense in the trial attempted to argue that Wilson has a “diseased mind” and the “disease of drug addiction.”

His legal team submitted a motion on July 3 seeking a new trial or acquittal; however, the judge denied the request on August 15. The defense filed a motion to delay the sentencing, which was originally scheduled for July 23. The motion related to the scheduling of expert witness testimony.

“This is not the conclusion.” I will be present at the execution, which occurs when the accused draws his final breath. Felix Ruiz, Ruiz’s father, announced, “That is a pledge.”
