Authorities have confirmed that three individuals have been arrested in connection with a deadly gang-related shootout that took place in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood over the summer.
In Miami-Dade court on Friday, three young individuals, Symarri Williams from Miami Gardens, Sheldred Johnson from Miami, and Manuel Rivera, aged 21, stood before a judge.
The individuals involved are all facing second-degree murder charges.
Officers received two ShotSpotter alerts for a total of 30 rounds of gunfire and promptly responded to the area of Northwest Second Avenue and 52nd Street just after 6:45 p.m. on July 1, as stated in the warrants.
Mitchell passed away after being taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
Vickers, fortunately, survived his injuries and has been discharged from the hospital, according to the police.
A Surveillance video captured the moment when a dark-colored BMW SUV passed by and someone inside opened fire at the Nissan, as revealed by authorities.
Detectives discovered that the Kia had been rented by a 21-year-old man named Ja’twan Phillips, hailing from Miami Gardens. Phillips is a member of “Slice Gang,” a rival gang to Mitchell’s “Boss Life” gang.
One warrant indicated that Johnson’s phone followed the same route as the Kia “prior to, during, and after the murder,” as revealed by a cell site warrant.
According to another warrant, Williams was taken into custody on July 18 for a separate case. During his arrest, he was found to be carrying a Glock firearm. Subsequent investigation revealed that the gun matched the casings that were recovered at the location of the shootout.
The police are still searching for an unclear number of other suspects.
