The Miami-Dade banquet hall shooting, which resulted in multiple fatalities in 2021, led to the arrest of four men last month. These individuals are now at risk of receiving the death penalty.
On Thursday, prosecutors made it known that they are pushing for the death penalty for the four men who were charged in the shooting incident that occurred on May 30, 2021, outside the El Mula banquet hall. The unfortunate event resulted in the deaths of three individuals, while 20 others sustained injuries.
Last month, Allen Gregory Chambers, Jr., Willie Zavon Hill, Eugene Anthony Holmes, and Jacarree Brian Green faced charges that included three counts of first-degree murder, one count of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and 20 counts of attempted first-degree murder with a deadly weapon related to the shooting incident.
The four individuals have entered a plea of not guilty and are scheduled to appear in court again in September.
On Friday, court proceedings saw three out of four suspects charged about the fatal mass shooting at “El Mula” banquet hall in 2021.
According to the prosecutors, the group of men specifically went to El Mula on that particular night to target members of a rival gang. This was during an album release party being hosted at the banquet hall.
As the surveillance footage revealed, three masked gunmen emerged from a stolen white Nissan Pathfinder and proceeded to shoot and kill three individuals: 32-year-old Shanique Peterson, 26-year-old Desmond Owens, and 26-year-old Clayton Dillard III.
The arrest warrant indicated that Holmes was identified as the driver of the Pathfinder, while Green was identified as the driver of the black Cadillac. Moreover, the records from cell phones and GPS confirmed that Hill and Chambers were the gunmen who stepped out of the said vehicle.
Back in November, Davonte Barnes, who had been identified as the fifth suspect, was convicted of his involvement in the shooting case. He was given a life sentence for serving as a lookout during the said incident.
In 2021, the police detained Warneric Buckner for his alleged involvement in the shooting incident. He was identified as one of the men present in the Pathfinder. However, the charges against him had to be dropped by the prosecutors when it was revealed that detectives had obtained a confession from him after he had requested an attorney, which was improper.
In 2021, Buckner was accused of involvement in the murder of 6-year-old Chassidy Saunders and is currently facing charges for the same. Despite the allegations, he pleaded not guilty and the case is still ongoing.
