Last month, a southwest Miami-Dade man received threatening messages on his Instagram account from an inmate at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County. The inmate has been charged with the offense.
On Wednesday, the Miami-Dade Police Department released an arrest report stating that Jovannie Castro, a 30-year-old resident of Florida City, has been charged with one count of written threats to kill or injure.
According to the Miami-Dade police, they received a report from the victim about threatening messages received via Instagram from Castro around 5 p.m. on June 26. The incident took place near the 29000 block of Southwest 149th Court, and the police promptly responded to the call.
According to the report, Castro went on to add in another message, “No, I want your soul.”
The investigators have confirmed that the Instagram account indeed belonged to Castro. As proof, they found a full-body picture of Castro being used as the profile image.
In the arrest report, the police did not reveal the connection between Castro and the victim.
According to jail records, Castro is still being held at TGK as of Wednesday due to a violation of house arrest on an unrelated charge. It has not yet been determined what his bond will be.
