On southbound Interstate 95 near Ives Dairy Road, a vehicle struck a pedestrian as the pursuit continued. The individual was attempting to escape from the officers at the time of the accident.
Early Monday morning, at approximately 7:30 a.m., law enforcement officers were dispatched to investigate reports of a pedestrian wandering along the side of the highway.
When the Florida Highway Patrol officers arrived at the scene, they encountered the pedestrian who was holding a knife. The officers tried to detain him, but he fled across four lanes of traffic. Tragically, he was hit by a black pickup truck coming from the opposite direction.
As the man lay on the ground with visible blood, Miami-Dade Police officers and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units rushed to the scene to provide aid.
The man’s condition was critical, and he was taken to Aventura Hospital for treatment.
Due to the incident, the express lanes on I-95 leading to Ives Dairy Road have been closed, resulting in significant delays that extend back to Hallandale Beach Boulevard.
