After leading them on a chase on Florida’s Turnpike in Miami-Dade County on Wednesday night, troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol caught the man, 25.
The arrest report of the suspect stated that a trooper spotted a dark-colored pickup truck traveling at a high speed while heading north on the Turnpike near Mile Marker 20. The description of the vehicle matched that of a stolen vehicle in Miami-Dade.
According to authorities, the driver of the truck accelerated and sped away, even after the trooper activated his emergency lights and sirens. The trooper then began following the truck.
The driver finally left the Turnpike by taking the exit at Southwest Eighth Street, heading eastward as stated in the report.
According to authorities, the truck proceeded to enter the crossroads of Southwest Eighth Street and 109th Avenue. As the truck was heading north on 109th Avenue, it collided with a vehicle heading west at the intersection, resulting in a collision.
According to troopers, the truck flipped onto its roof while on the bridge located north of the intersection.
The driver, Eduardo Pastrana, from Miami, fled from the truck and engaged in combat with troopers as they attempted to apprehend him, as per the arrest report.
The suspect was so uncooperative that it required the efforts of several police officers to finally restrain him with handcuffs.
The suspect is believed to be involved in various vehicle thefts, as per the arrest report. Miami-Dade police detectives will be in charge of the investigation. According to the troopers, the truck and tag were both reported stolen.
Pastrana is charged with committing grand theft of a vehicle, as well as fleeing and eluding police, and resisting an officer with violence.
He is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Thursday morning and his bond has not been set.
