Authorities have apprehended the suspect and are charging him with serious offenses after a high-speed pursuit in Miami Gardens resulted in a rollover crash on State Road 826.
On Thursday afternoon, the entrance to the northbound Florida Turnpike and eastbound State Road 826 saw a response from Florida Highway Patrol units.
Investigators reported that Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies initiated a pursuit of a stolen black GMC Denali in the vicinity of the Golden Glades Interchange.
The Denali veered off the road during the chase, and the Florida Highway Patrol eventually cornered it with construction equipment, bringing the truck to a stop in a pile of sand.
The Denali collided with a blue Mercedes-Benz and a box truck, causing the latter to roll over onto its side.
As soon as the Denali crashed and obstructed the entrance ramp, 7Skyforce was dispatched to survey the scene from above.
Rescue crews had to extricate 35-year-old Joseph Gianino, who was identified as the driver of the truck.
The authorities have arrested Gianino on various charges, such as grand theft, fleeing and eluding, and leaving the scene of an accident.
The arrest report states that Gianino had been on probation for fleeing and eluding the police in the past.
Traffic can now use the ramp to access the Turnpike from U.S. 441 and SR 826 as it has been reopened.
Miami-Dade County has experienced three high-speed police chases in the past few days, with Thursday’s pursuit being the most recent.
