The Miami-Dade Police Department has announced that a woman who attempted to end her own life by jumping off an overpass on Interstate 95, leaving her 3-year-old fraternal twins in her SUV, will now face murder charges. The tragic incident resulted in the death of the young twins, whose deaths have been ruled as homicides. The twins were found foaming at the mouth and were unable to be saved.
On February 15, the Miami-Dade police took Shirlene Alcime, a 42-year-old woman from North Miami Beach, into custody for her involvement in the incident that occurred on February 2.
On Friday, authorities confirmed that the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office conducted a toxicology report and determined that the cause of death for the twins was homicide. The specific substances found in their systems were not disclosed by the authorities.
According to police, before attempting suicide by jumping off the bridge, she requested a tow truck driver who had stopped to assist her to call 911 for her children. Tragically, the twins, a boy and a girl, were declared dead after being transported to Jackson North Medical Center.
In the report, a detective wrote that Alcime gave detailed accounts of her whereabouts and the events that occurred with the two victims during the interview. However, when asked specifically about what she gave the victims that caused them to become unresponsive and foam at the mouth, she denied giving them anything and claimed to have no knowledge of what happened.
According to jail records, Alcime is currently being held without bond after pleading not guilty to the child neglect charges on February 27th.
