Newly-released video footage is shedding light on a South Florida karate instructor who has been accused of assaulting a young student. The authorities have shared the video which they believe could help with the ongoing investigation.
In September of last year, the body camera footage was captured at a karate school situated in a strip mall along Southwest 88th Street and 137th Avenue.
The police questioned 58-year-old Darwin Dejesus Rojas-Frias just a few hours after a 9-year-old girl made allegations against him in a private session.
Detectives claim that after the class, the girl’s parents received a notification from her, and they immediately contacted the police the same day.
According to the sensei, the girl’s mother was present during the lesson and has denied the accusation. The sensei maintains his innocence in the matter.
According to him, the reason he went to the closet was because that’s where he stores his equipment.
In support of her husband, Rojas-Frias, his wife spoke out and vouched for his flawless character. She even went as far as to suggest that there was no private space where the alleged abuse could have occurred.
Days later, Rojas-Frias was arrested and denied bail. Since the karate school closed down, it has remained shuttered. Innocent men do not make deals, according to Rojas-Frias’s attorney, so prosecutors should be ready to go to trial.
Authorities are emphasizing their worry about the possibility of other children facing similar accusations, and are urging anyone who has been victimized to come forward.
