Miami police arrested a 35-year-old man on Tuesday for allegedly punching another man in the face outside a Winn-Dixie grocery store.
According to reports, the store at 1150 NW 54th St. witnessed an incident just before 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
The arrest report of the suspect states that a witness flagged down a Miami police officer and informed him that he saw Nathan Ulseth, a resident of Miami, walking towards the victim and hitting him in the face while he was standing in front of a grocery store.
According to the report, the officer intervened and separated the two individuals. It was during this time that the officer noticed a cutting instrument on the ground.
The officer’s report stated that Ulseth admitted, “That fell out of my bag,” without prompting. He later claimed that he had been beaten up.
According to the authorities, there is no known connection between the victim and Ulseth.
According to the victim’s report to the police, as soon as he parked his car, Ulseth started approaching him while yelling curse words. Before he knew it, Ulseth punched him in the mouth, resulting in a cut on his inner lip.
As per the arrest report, another witness informed the police that they intervened and prevented Ulseth from attacking the victim again. The witness also stated that the victim did not provoke Ulseth in any way.
According to authorities, the victim’s and witnesses’ statements were supported by surveillance footage.
Authorities took Ulseth into custody after he was accused of committing battery against an individual who is 65 years of age or older.
According to the police, he reported experiencing pain in his left arm, which led them to take him to the emergency room at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
According to the report, he was hitting his left arm on an armrest while in the hospital’s triage area.
It is still unclear what motivated the attack. Ulseth is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Wednesday afternoon. According to jail records, he was on felony bond when he was arrested.
