An Amazon delivery driver is facing charges after allegedly striking a mother and her infant with her vehicle in Miami-Dade County, Florida. According to police, the driver fled the scene after the incident occurred.
The incident took place on Thursday morning at around 8:20 a.m. in the vicinity of Northeast 191st Street and Seventh Avenue.
Sarahy Parra-Ovalles, a 45-year-old woman, was captured on surveillance video as she drove her Hyundai SUV within the premises of Aventura Isles Estates, as reported by the police.
Parra-Ovalles was observed hitting the victim, who was pushing a stroller with her four-month-old child inside and walking her dog, according to police.
Parra-Ovalles left her car and promptly restored the toppled stroller to its upright position. She then carefully picked up the infant from the road and placed them back inside the stroller before departing from the scene, as reported by the police.
The victim sustained injuries including a skull fracture, bruising, and a brain bleed, while the infant had a laceration on his forehead. They were immediately transported to Memorial Regional Hospital for medical treatment, according to the police.
Authorities were able to track down Parra-Ovalles through investigative methods and asked her to respond to Miami-Dade Police Department’s Intracoastal District Station for questioning, which she willingly did on Friday.
According to the police, Parra-Ovalles chose not to exercise her Miranda rights and did not confess to hitting the victim. However, when presented with video evidence of the incident, she denied any involvement and promptly invoked her rights.
She has been arrested and is currently facing several felony charges.
The health status of the victims has not been updated.
