Authorities are currently investigating a shooting incident involving an officer that resulted in a fatality in the Hudson Valley region.
Early Tuesday morning, Sullivan County was bustling with a significant presence of law enforcement officials.
According to the New York State Police, the incident has been confirmed. As per the police report, Albert Melendez, a 32-year-old resident of Middletown, NY, stopped his vehicle and tried to turn around at the intersection of Rock Hill Drive and Emerald Place.

As Melendez continued driving, Trooper Russell T. Peters of Troop F stepped out of his patrol car and ordered Melendez to halt his vehicle.
Officials report that, despite attempts to stop the vehicle, it proceeded and struck the trooper.
According to the New York State Police, Peters, who has been a member of the force since September 2021, used his duty weapon to fire and strike Melendez.
Police stated that Melendez received emergency medical care from Troopers and was later transported to Garnet Health Medical Center, where he unfortunately passed away.
The authorities have not disclosed any further details yet. As per the police, they are still investigating the matter.
