A man who had been on “most wanted” lists in two countries has been apprehended in Redway, California. The U.S. Marshals had been seeking him out due to his involvement in a murder that occurred at a Miami Beach nightclub in 2023.
According to authorities, Deshawn Davis, aged 36, was implicated in a kidnapping case in Ontario in 2022, which landed him on Canada’s “25 Most Wanted” list.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Marshals reported that they captured “Thorobread,” a Canadian national, in Redway, California. Redway is a small unincorporated town located in the forests in the northwest of the state, around three-and-a-half hours north of San Francisco. The fugitive was listed on the agency’s “15 Most Wanted” list just last Thursday.
On May 7, 2023, the GALA Miami nightclub at 235 23rd St. was the location of a triple shooting that led Miami Beach police to suspect Davis of being the gunman.
During a party at the venue, two women were injured and Lowell “Lo” Grissom, a rapper from South Florida and talent scout for Chris Brown Entertainment, was fatally shot.
The U.S. Marshals Service has stated that they suspect the murder to be a targeted attack with a connection to a gang.
Since the Ontario Provincial Police had charged Davis and two other people for their involvement in the kidnapping of Elnaz Hajtamiri on January 12, 2022, Davis was already considered to be a fugitive in Canada at the time.
Hajtamiri was abducted from a relative’s residence in Wasaga Beach, Ontario, and taken away in an SUV. Unfortunately, he has not been located since then.
Hajtamiri’s former partner faced charges for her tragic death.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Ronald L. Davis, director of the U.S. Marshals Service, expressed hope that the apprehension of the suspect will not only bring justice to the victims but also ensure the safety of the community.
It is currently unclear when Davis will be extradited to South Florida, as authorities have not provided any information on the matter.
