A man and a woman were taken into custody on Tuesday at Miami International Airport for attempting to board an American Airlines flight to Las Vegas, according to authorities.
Flight staff observed that Eugenio Ernesto Hernandez-Garnier, a 27-year-old resident of Las Vegas, had a bleeding forehead and was wearing a bloody bandage around his wound, as stated in the suspects’ arrest reports.
Miami-Dade police reported that Hernandez-Garnier was requested to clean up the blood and replace his bandages. However, he claimed that he did not possess any clean bandages.
The crew members repeatedly requested the man to leave the plane due to concerns about his medical condition and potential contamination from body fluids, as per the reports.
According to the police, Hernandez-Garnier and his travel companion, Yusleydis Blanca Loyola, 32, from Las Vegas, were unwilling to leave and stated, “if they couldn’t fly, then no one else could either.”
Police officers at the airport responded to the situation and asked Hernandez-Garnier and Loyola to leave, as stated in the arrest reports. However, the two individuals refused to comply once again.
In a TikTok video shared by Loyola, Hernandez-Garnier can be heard yelling that he had just undergone surgery.
Despite being warned multiple times that they would be arrested for trespassing, the individuals refused to comply and refused to leave the aircraft, according to the police.
According to the reports, they were placed under arrest after initially resisting being handcuffed.
Due to the couple’s actions, the flight was delayed as all other passengers were also required to deboard, as stated by the police.
Authorities said both suspects were taken to Jackson West for evaluation of their bleeding before being transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Both individuals are currently being charged with trespassing after receiving a warning and resisting an officer without resorting to violence.
The cause of the bleeding for either defendant was not stated in the arrest reports.
