In late July, a motorcyclist lost his life in a tragic crash in northwest Miami-Dade, and now a teenager is facing an extra charge of leaving the scene of the accident.
Brayan Carmona, a 17-year-old, was charged initially with organizing a drag race on a highway or streetway, as well as leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury. Jail records indicate that these charges are in connection with a crash that took place on July 28.
In the early hours of the morning, around 5:21 a.m., Miami-Dade police officers spotted a 2014 red Mercedes-Benz C250 engaging in a popular maneuver called a “donut” on Northwest 72nd Avenue.
After executing the maneuver, officials stated that the vehicle proceeded southbound on Northwest 72nd Avenue and then turned right onto Northwest 12th Street, traveling in a westerly direction.
During the traffic stop, law enforcement officers observed noticeable damage to the driver’s side of Carmona’s vehicle, along with the deployed airbags.
According to the report, the police were informed by a witness that the car had been involved in a crash with a motorcycle, resulting in two victims lying on the roadway.
According to the police, the witness revealed that the driver had left the scene after hitting the motorcycle just before the second accident happened.
According to investigators, they called for backup and subsequently discovered two victims, a male and a female, on Northwest 72nd Avenue. However, the authorities did not disclose the identities of the victims, and the motorcycle was not found at the scene.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported both victims to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where the motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at 10:16 a.m. The passenger is currently in critical condition, according to the police.
According to the police, Carmona failed to inform them about the previous crash and did not make any effort to assist at the scene.
The authorities have not revealed the fate of the motorcycle that was reportedly involved in the accident.
According to jail records, Carmona is currently being held at the Metrowest Detention Center as of Monday. The bond for his new charge has not yet been determined.
