In Miami Gardens, Florida, authorities have apprehended an 18-year-old man in connection with a fatal crash that occurred several weeks ago. The unfortunate incident resulted in the death of another man.
Iveson Cheri was arrested after an incident that occurred on July 2. As per the arrest warrant, Cheri was driving under the influence at around 4 a.m. when his car collided with another vehicle that was stationary at a red light. The accident took place at the intersection of Northwest 183rd Street and 22nd Avenue.
According to the police report, Cheri was driving her 2022 blue Infiniti Q60 at a speed of 95 mph when it collided with Mekhi Tariq Hoosein Quiles’ 2005 orange Ford Focus. The impact was so strong that it sent Quiles’ vehicle flying 223 feet away and crashing into a nearby bus stop.
Drivers must adhere to a speed limit of 40 mph in the designated area.
The authorities declared Quiles dead at the location of the incident.
The warrant stated that Cheri suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital.
According to the police, the crash occurred because Cheri did not apply the brakes before the accident.
The officers who arrived at the scene observed indications of potential impairment in the individual, such as slurred speech. They also documented his confusion and disorientation, as per the warrant.
According to authorities, his blood-alcohol level was .205 percent one hour after the crash, as revealed by a blood draw.
Cheri has been charged with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide/reckless manner.
He is currently being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Friday morning.
