Miami police reported on Wednesday that a 41-year-old man from Miami has been arrested for engaging in a “sexual relationship” with a 15-year-old girl, who ran away from her home last week.
As per the arrest report of the suspect, the victim arrived home on Sunday along with Lenuam Gonzalez, a Cuban citizen who is presently employed as a laborer in the United States.
According to police, the victim’s mother reported that her daughter had left home on Friday. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to reach her daughter, Gonzalez answered the girl’s phone and introduced himself as her “man.” He then advised the teen’s mother to allow her daughter to “fly free like a bird.”
The mother was warned by Gonzalez that she would regret calling the police, as per the report.
Initially, the mother refrained from contacting the authorities as she was worried about her daughter’s safety, according to the police.
According to the police, the woman managed to contact her daughter, who begged her not to involve the authorities as she was expecting a child.
As per the report, Gonzalez and the victim arrived at her residence on Sunday.
After some contemplation, the victim’s mother made the decision to inform the police about the incident and was able to recognize Gonzalez from a photograph.
According to the police, the victim first attempted to explain to the officers that Gonzalez was in a relationship with her mother. Later, she changed her statement and asserted that she and Gonzalez were simply friends.
As per the report, the victim eventually confessed to meeting Gonzalez in January and engaging in a sexual relationship with him after he ended a previous relationship.
According to authorities, the teenager revealed to the police that she had engaged in sexual activity with Gonzalez twice and is currently three months pregnant. Additionally, she handed over a positive home pregnancy test to the authorities as evidence.
The arrest report stated that when Gonzalez was apprehended, he broke down in tears and professed his innocence.
He is currently detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with no bond set as of Thursday afternoon.
