Manuel Laguerre found himself once again at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale. While he has had multiple encounters with law enforcement in the past, he has never faced the possibility of going to prison. However, this time, his latest case could potentially change that.
Laguerre, 35, is now facing charges of attempted murder. He appeared in court on Thursday following his capture by the Miramar police.
Laguerre, a resident of Miramar, was born and raised in Miami. In Broward County, he has had encounters with the law, including drug court cases during his youth and many domestic violence incidents.
Most of the cases against him have been dismissed. He was only 22 years old when a judge sentenced him to a two-year probation period and mandated that he undergo therapy for charges related to battery and aggravated battery with a firearm.
Laguerre had two pending cases in 2023 before his most recent arrest for attempted murder. One case was a felony case filed in March with the Broward Sheriff’s Office, while the other was a misdemeanor filed in June with the Hollywood Police Department.
Deputy Brandon Ortiz’s arrest report on March 3, 2023, states that Laguerre was behind the wheel of a gray Acura when he picked up Anthony Sealey at 6401 West Commercial Boulevard in Tamarac. Sealey had just stolen lotions and shampoo bottles from Walgreens.
According to the report, Laguerre mentioned that he has been acquainted with Sealey for about three years. He received a call from Sealey, asking for a ride from urgent care. Laguerre further stated that Sealey requested him to take him home and then to Walgreens to collect a prescription.
BSO deputies were skeptical and charged Laguerre with grand theft and being an accessory after the fact. The case is currently being overseen by Circuit Judge Michael Lynch.
Officer Elaine Trujillo’s arrest report from June 10, 2023, states that Laguerre was discovered sleeping in a gray Acura by Hollywood police officers. Despite their request, he declined to take the field sobriety and breathalyzer tests. Consequently, he was apprehended in the vicinity of Washington Street and 58 Avenue in Hollywood.
In the report, Officer Trujillo observed several indications that suggested a possible impairment. He noted that the individual had a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, a flushed face, bloodshot, watery, and glassy eyes, droopy eyelids, and was using the vehicle behind him for support by leaning on it.
