According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, a verbal altercation led to gunfire, resulting in injuries to two individuals. The suspect is currently barricaded at a residence on Shell Point Road as of Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
According to Washington County Sheriff Kevin Crews, they successfully located the whereabouts of the individual in question and proceeded to set up a perimeter. Despite giving the individual 9 hours to surrender to law enforcement, the situation ended tragically with the individual, identified as Mr. Brown, taking his own life.
According to authorities, a 9-1-1 call was received around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday regarding an incident near Shell Point Road in Vernon, Florida. It is reported that the altercation began when 55-year-old Hueland Brown attempted to prevent his girlfriend and her family from leaving the residence. Sheriff Crews has confirmed that the two victims sustained injuries as a result.
However, it is anticipated that both individuals will make a complete recovery.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, no charges are currently expected concerning the ongoing investigation.
After a grueling 9-hour standoff, law enforcement tried to peacefully resolve the situation and convince Brown to surrender. However, their efforts proved to be futile as Brown ultimately decided to take his own life.
