Tragedy Strikes as One Fatality Reported in Miami Beach Condo Scaffolding Collapse
In a devastating incident, a partial collapse of scaffolding at an oceanfront condo in Miami Beach has claimed the life of one person. The incident took place on Tuesday, leaving the community in shock and mourning the loss.
Emergency personnel were called to the Villa Di Mare building at 5801 Collins Avenue in response to an incident, which involved Miami Beach Police and fire rescue teams.
Chopper 6 captured footage of the scaffolding suspended from the side of the building, as the building is currently undergoing renovations.
A scaffolding collapse in Miami Beach on Tuesday afternoon resulted in one person sustaining injuries.
According to city officials, an individual was transported from the scene to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. Tragically, the individual succumbed to their injuries, as confirmed by fire rescue officials.
Another individual received medical attention at the scene.
The identities of the individuals involved in the incident have not been disclosed by officials. Furthermore, no additional information has been provided at this time. The police are currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
The Villa di Mare condo in Miami Beach is currently undergoing a major renovation project worth $2 million. The project includes concrete restoration, painting, and stucco work. Records indicate that the building, which was constructed in 2002, comprises 13 luxurious units. Each unit occupies an entire floor and boasts over 4,600 square feet of space. These exclusive units are priced at over $4.5 million each, making them highly sought after by discerning buyers.
Every day, a resident living across the street from the condo has noticed ongoing construction activities at the building for several months.
“It’s really unfortunate to come to work this morning after a long weekend,” she expressed with a tinge of sadness. “Somebody has to do it, but it’s a somber occasion. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”
According to NBC6, residents living next to the condo were informed via email about the commencement of the project in January.
OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, arrived at the condo on Tuesday afternoon to initiate their investigation. NBC6 contacted the project’s general contractor for a comment.
