Chaos briefly erupted in the terminal of Miami International Airport on Saturday night when a woman was brutally stabbed.
Miami-Dade Police reported that the assault occurred at 11:30 p.m. on the 4th floor of Terminal J in the Arrivals area. Alexander Love, who was identified as the alleged stabber, has been taken into custody and is now facing an attempted murder charge.
At first, a call was made to the police regarding a suspected active shooter. This led to a short period of disturbance in airport operations. However, law enforcement quickly ascertained that the commotion was the result of a stabbing incident.
According to Detective Angel Rodriguez, the incident is isolated and does not affect airport operations.
The authorities have apprehended the perpetrator in the vicinity of the stabbing incident and have successfully recovered the weapon used in the assault.
According to NBC6, a passenger identified as Dana, who was traveling with Delta Airlines, reported that she and her family heard an argument before chaos erupted. Dana stated that they heard the argument escalating and then someone yelled, “Run.” Without hesitation, everyone ran for safety.
Investigators are currently working to establish the connection between the suspect and the victim, while the motive behind the assault remains unclear. It is also uncertain whether the male assailant and the female victim were traveling together at the time of the incident.
The JMH Ryder Trauma Center received the woman in critical condition, and she was rushed there immediately.
The airport has resumed its regular operations.
