A courageous incident took place in Miami Beach, Fla., where a police officer was seated in her cruiser when an unexpected event occurred – a man abruptly jumped into her car. However, the officer’s quick thinking and response potentially played a vital role in ensuring her safety.
Last Tuesday, a man in the midst of a mental health crisis unexpectedly leaped into her marked patrol car at Fifth Street and Lenox Avenue, urgently demanding that she take him away.
The officer was conducting her routine patrol when, unexpectedly, the man leaped into her car and demanded that she start driving, as stated in the incident report.
In a desperate attempt to protect herself, the officer resorted to using her Taser a total of seven times. At that critical moment, another officer from the Miami-Dade Schools police force swiftly came to her aid.
In her report, the officer noted, “My vehicle was still running, with the engine on. I was worried that the individual might get into the driver’s seat and try to drive away. It is important to mention that we were just 100 feet away from South Pointe Elementary.”
The officer explained that after the second Taser cycle, he instructed the individual to exit the vehicle. However, the individual shouted, “I’m on the floor!” and did not make any effort to comply. As a result, the officer administered another Taser cycle.
The situation kept getting worse.
In her report, she mentioned that she lost partial visibility of the suspect’s body after the seventh taser cycle. Due to this, she had to use her taser once again to apprehend the suspect as she couldn’t reach across her vehicle.
The man, once apprehended, inquired of the officers if they were enjoying some pretzels and declared himself to be a contestant from a reality TV show.
During his treatment, he asked the officers to inform Oprah Winfrey.
The police confirmed that they had Baker Acted the man.
