Wade Wilson has been sentenced to death row.
The man who was convicted of murdering two women in Florida has been moved from the Lee County Jail in Fort Myers to the Union Correctional Institution in Raiford. The 30-year-old offender will remain at the new facility until his execution.
In the photo accompanying his Inmate Population Information profile, Wilson appears youthful and without his infamous tattoos.
Wilson became the initial murderer in Florida to face execution following Governor Ron DeSantis‘ controversial alteration of the law. In April 2023, DeSantis enacted a law that lowered the threshold for jurors to recommend a death sentence from unanimous agreement to an 8-4 majority. Critics argue that this modification has transformed capital resentencing and trials into a precarious gamble for individuals confronted with the possibility of the death penalty.
In June, the jury in Wilson’s case made a strong recommendation for the death penalty. Nine out of the 12 jurors recommended the death penalty for the murder of Melton, while 10 jurors recommended death for the murder of Ruiz.
