In New York State, a man wanted for three felonies believing he had found the ultimate hiding spot from the authorities. However, his plan backfired, as he ended up giving himself up to the police without much effort on their part.
Authorities had been in search of the suspect for multiple felonies, including 2nd-degree criminal possession of a weapon and misdemeanor 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
According to the Elmira Police Department, a call was made regarding a wanted suspect being present in an apartment complex. The department promptly responded to the call.
According to WETM, the police had surrounded the building and attempted to establish contact with the suspect. However, one of the complex tenants met the officers outside and informed them that the suspect had fallen from the ceiling while trying to hide.
According to reports, the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit successfully located the suspect with a brief search and apprehended him without further complications.
In rare instances, suspects on the run have been known to hide from police in ceilings. Such was the case in early 2023 when a 43-year-old suspect, who had reportedly hit an officer with his vehicle while escaping from Stewart’s store, was ultimately caught while concealing himself in the ceiling.
Authorities utilized social media to share the image of the Bainbridge man, resulting in his discovery in Oneonta. Following an extensive two-hour search, the suspect was found hiding in the ceiling of a building. WKTV reports on the successful use of social media in this case.
